The buses are comfortable and air-conditioned and staffed with a host or hostess to ensure you are well taken care of during the travel. You can watch a movie to while away the hours. Snacks and drinks are served during the journey and there is also a meal stop on the way. The final stop is at the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok.

You can hire a car and drive to Bangkok by taking the Highway No. 4 (Phetchakasem Road). The drive along the route as you pass through Phang Nga, Ranong, Chumphon, Prachuapkhirikan, Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi, and Nakhorn Pathom is pretty scenic especially between Ranong and Phang Nga. You can enjoy the views of forest-covered mountains on one side and the Andaman Sea on the other.

There is no direct train link between Phuket and Bangkok. However you can take a bus to Surat Thani and then board a train to Bangkok. Trains begin running at 05:00, then leave at regular intervals until 15:30. The train journey is usually by night so you can book a berth and sleep most of the way. Trains have three different classes and depending on your budget, you can travel first, second or third class. First class facilities include a private air-conditioned 2-berth compartment with washbasin. Note that first class is not available on all trains. The second class is further divided into fan sleeper and air-condition sleeper. The third class is a bit uncomfortable with hard benches and so it is not recommended for long journeys. You can purchase your meals from vendors at various stops; otherwise trains have a catering car where you can enjoy meals at reasonable prices.
